The top-level exchanges between Botswana and the Commonwealth of The Bahamas will provide both nations with a chance to strengthen their close ties and boost cooperation.
This is according to visiting Bahamian Prime Minister, Mr Phillip Davis and Botswana's President, Dr Mokgweetsi Masisi, during a press conference in Gaborone on Sunday.
"Our engagement broadens our existing bilaterals and we were building on the foundations laid by our past leaders. We want to take further our cooperation on areas of education, vocational training, tourism, youth, gender and culture as well as financial services of the banking sector," said President Masisi
He added that they also covered topics concerning the political landscape, international order, and governance. The president also noted that Mr Davis would visit the Bank of Botswana, given that the Bahamas has made significant strides in the financial sector, Daily News Botswana reports.
Furthermore, Masisi said the Bahamian Prime Minister would also visit the Diamond Trading Company: "We want you to see the opportunities and the challenges that come with diamonds, for instance the G7 matter and the threat it is to Botswana's diamond market, a severe threat that will revert Botswana's efforts in trading with the rough diamond as a primary product," he said.
The two leaders also discussed the geopolitical environment in the multilateral space, financial matters and governance.
He expressed that as like-minded individuals, they were keen to form a coalition aimed at addressing challenges and devising solutions that could have a global impact.
"I strongly believe in the power of connection. This invitation is a bridge between the two nations, a promise of mutual growth, motho ke motho ka batho, I am because we are," said Prime Minister Davis.
He went on to commend Botswana for sharing values that align with his nation's sustainable development journey.
"Ours is a partnership that yearns to secure a brighter future and shared success of opportunities. It is a result of seeds of friendship sown," Mr Davis added.
