Botswana ‘Tourism Month’ showcased at Dubai Expo

21 Jan 2022

Botswana’s ‘Tourism Month’ is being featured at the country’s pavilion at Expo 2020 Dubai, highlighting the country’s tourism and investment potential.

On display until 8 February, the Botswana Pavilion will showcase the country as a globally competitive tourism destination boasting rich natural resources. The exhibition will also underscore Botswana’s diverse culture, gastronomy and sustainability, according to officials during a press conference.

Delegates taking part include Botswana Minister of Environment, Natural Resources Conservation and Tourism, Philda Kereng, as well as her permanent secretary Dr Oduetse Oldman Koboto and Botswana tourism organisation acting chief executive officer Tshoganetso Carl-Ponoesele.

Botswana is renowned for its unique experiences, wildlife and off-grid holidays, Kereng stated, going on to say: “The country boasts two UNESCO World Heritage Sites, Tsodilo Hills with the rock art filled spiritual sites, and the Okavango Delta which is the desert’s unexpected wetland wonder.”

Over the month, Botswana Tourism scheduled a raft of activities to showcase the country’s wide range of offerings. At the Botswana tourism conference earlier this week, talks were held between Botswana and international trade partners and potential investors, particularly located in the UAE and GCC countries.

Key Middle East stakeholders were the focus of the conference, which concentrated on travel and tourism as well as investment opportunities in Botswana. The ‘Destination Botswana’ campaign was officially launched at the conference, attracting more than 70 delegates, including investors from the Middle East.

Botswana has enjoyed significant growth in business and investment opportunities thanks to the stable political environment. In addition, via the Tourism Industry Covid-19 Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) implemented by the government, the industry is committed to safeguarding the health of the sector and that of visitors to the country.
