Botswana’s president, Dr Mokgweetsi Masisi, is taking part in the upcoming 28th Session of the Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP28) in Dubai on 1-2 December.
COP28 is set to evaluate the progress made following the implementation of the Paris Agreement and the climate action required.
President Masisi will participate in the World Climate Action Summit along with other global leaders within the high-level meetings scheduled for heads of state and government, Botswana Daily News reports.

Moreover, Botswana’s president will co-host an event for the Group of Landlocked Developing Countries (LLDCs) in his role as the global chairperson of the LLDCs.
He is also set to give a statement on Botswana’s Climate Change Agenda and detail some of the initiatives in place to address the impact of climate change in the country.
Within the COP28 summit, Botswana’s pavilion will also host a series of side events to highlight the country’s climate action plans.
At the event, President Masisi will be accompanied by Ministers of Foreign Affairs, Local Government and Rural Development, Finance, Lands and Water Affairs, Agriculture, Health, Minerals and Energy, Environment and Tourism, along with senior government officials and representatives from the private sector, academics, non-governmental organisations and youth-led organisations, the Daily News Botswana report adds.
